Women inaugural Handball League kicks off

Qatar’s Women inaugural Handball League 2012 organised by the Qatar Women Sport Committee (QWSC) in cooperation with the Qatar Handball Association kicked off successfully at Ladies Sport Hall in Aspire Dome on Wednesday.
As per the QWSC program, the prestigious event brings together four teams including Al-Sadd, Al-Rayyan, Qatar and Al-Onabi who regularly compete on Wednesday in each week.
In Wednesday’s opening round , Al-Sadd recorded a hard-fought 15-13 victory over Qatar SC and Al-Onabi defeated Al-Rayyan 14-9 in the second playoff.
In the third encounter, Al-Onabi team outclassed Al-Sadd 10-6 and Qatar SC thrashed Al-Rayyan 15-7 in the fourth match.

QWSC Inaugural Women basketball League kicks off

Qatar Women Sport Committee (QWSC) announced the organization of its inaugural Women Basketball League Which kicked off Saturday and will last until 2 June amid participation of 10 teams.
At a pre-league news conference held earlier on Saturday senior QWSC officials including Lulua Al-Marri the QWSC Secretary General Saleha Al-Nuaimi, the Director of Qatar Women basketball team Sheikha Al-Qahatani , the QWSC Financial Manager beside officials from Q-Sport Company unveiled the detaila of the event.
According to the organizers, some prize money is allocated for the top three winners, where the first place winners will get QR 10.000 as runner-up will receive QR 4.000 will go to the third place winners beside other personal awards for the best senior and Junior players in the League.
Mrs. Lulua Al-Marri the QWSC Secretary General confirmed that the league will develop the game in Qatar.

Qatar to Participate in Int’l Conference on Women’s Sports

ABU DHABi, UAE, 07 April, 2012 – A senior delegation from Qatar’s women Sport Committee (QWSC) is scheduled to will participate in Abu Dhabi’s International Conference on Women’s Sports will be held in the 10th and 11th of April 2012 under the generous patronage of H.H Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the UAE General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation, and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Motherhood & Childhood.
The conference will also be held under the kind care and support of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the board of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy for Ladies Sports.
The conference will be organized by the Academy of H.H Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak for Ladies’ Sports, and will be held under the slogan “Sports: Health & Happiness”.
The conference will take place at the Emirates Palace Hotel on the 10th and 11th of April 2012 and will be attended by prominent local, regional and international sport personalities related to women’s sports, and will be the first of its kind in the Middle East.
The conference will be held to help achieve the objectives of emphasizing the importance of practicing women’s sport activities, reflects the role of practicing sports in improving the physical, psychological and social aspects of women’s lives, reflect the importance of using sport practicing as a lifestyle, emphasize the role of women’s associations to encourage the practicing of sport activities, increase the awareness of women about the importance of practicing sport activities and how to avoid and neglect any negative remarks and comments they face when they practice sport activities, and to reflect the role of media to encourage women to practice sport activities.

Qatar to participate in West Asian Futsal Championship

Qatar will participate in the West Asian Futsal Championship to be held in Bahrain from 02 to 11 April 2012. The championship will feature the participation of eight teams including Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Iran and Bahrain. The Qatari team played to friendly matches before the championship against Afghanistan and Maldives. Ms. Ahlam Al-Mana, President of Qatar Women’s Sports Committee wished all success for participants in the Championship.

Qatar win West Asian Table Tennis Championship

The Qatari table tennis team won the gold medal of the West Asian Table Tennis Championship concluded in Beirut, Lebanon on Sunday. The Qatar team also secured a place at the Asian Table Tennis Championship to be held in June 2012. On the other hand, the girl’s table tennis team also qualified to the Asian Table Tennis Championship after securing the second place in girls competitions. In the closing match, Qatar suffered a 0-3 defeat against Syria. The Qatari team included Aya Magdi, Hessa Al-Hamad and Fatima Al-Kuwari.
Mrs. Ahlam Al-Mana, President of Qatar Women’s Sport Committee congratulated the Qatari girls table tennis team on the silver medal and the qualification to the Asian championship.

The Inaugural Women Football League will begin on Monday and will be concluded on May 2012.
The event will be organized by the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee (QWSC) in cooperation with the Qatar Football Association (QFA). The tournament will feature the participation of 6 teams including Unite Qatar, Al-Kharaitiyat, Al-Sadd, Al-Ahli, Al-Rayyan and Lekhwiya. The technical meeting and draw were held on Wednesday with attendance of Maha Al-Abduljabar, QWSC Secretary General in addition to two experts from the Qatar Stars League Management.

Women Football Refereeing Course begins

The Women Football Refereeing Training Course organized by the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee (QWSC) in cooperation the Qatar Football Association (QFA) began on Monday.
To continue until March 01, 2012, the training course aims to provide participants with required skills of refereeing and latest rules of football.
The Qatari international refereeing experts Jassim Al-Hail and Hani Ballan give the theoretical and practical lectures of the training course.
The training course features the participation of 20 coaches, referees and teachers.

Qataris celebrate National Sports Day

Qatar’s National Sports Day (NSD) events began Tuesday at 9 a.m. on the Corniche with a sport walks organised by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC).
Dignitaries and all segments of the society, citizens and residents, participated in the walks, which started from Islamic Museum Park to Oryx Area and From Sheraton Park to Oryx Area.
The Olympic Committee made great preparations to make the country a sports ground to accommodate all citizens and residents of different ages and from all parties in the State.
In this context, the committee opened sports fields and facilities across the country to the public to allow them practicing sports. In addition, the QOC has prepared a big tent for VIP Guests and another tent for electronic shooting competitions in coordination with the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation in the Yard beside General Post Office.
NSD’s festivities brought together thousands of people from local community individuals including, men, youth, women and kids who engaged in several sports activities.
Sport plays a significant role in Qatar community, firstly it will safeguard the society members against some fatal diseases, including diabetics, heart attacks, Obesity and overweight , furthermore it act as integral part of the people’s daily health life.
Many medical reports confirmed that walk and daily practices in different sports will improve the life style of majority of patients and help other people to get rid of hypertension, work pressures and psychological problems.
HE Minister of Public Health and the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) Abdullah Bin Khalid Al-Qahtani said that the wise leadership of the state pays great attention to all sectors, especially sports and health, which is reflected clearly in the Emiri Decree No. 80 of 2011 issued by HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani considering Tuesday in the second week of February each year to be marked as the National Sports Day.
HE the Minister expressed his highest appreciation to HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on the occasion of the National Sports Day.

Qatar Celebrates National Sports Day

Doha, 13 February 2012 Qatar celebrates this Tuesday the first National Sports Day at a grand scale attracting local community and sporting individuals.
National Sports Day is a pioneer initiative adopted by HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent who issued the Emiri Decree No. 80 for the year 2011 on 06 December 2011, concerning the State s National Sports Day. the Decree states that Tuesday in the second week of February each year will be the State s National Sports Day.
All ministries and governmental bodies have lined up a series of public events and have encouraged their employees to engage enthusiastically in the sports activities.
Celebrating the National Sports Day reveals the importance of sport as a significant factor to help domestic institutions achieving their goals by creating a healthy community at both physical and psychological levels.
For its side, Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has prepared for this day to ensure the participation of all community members ( nationals and residents) in this prestigious National Sports Day as part of QOC s strategy to promote sports , physical education and sustainable development inside the community , that in compliance with the Qatar s 2030 vision.
QOC has previously addressed all sport clubs and federations across the country to open the gates of their facilities for all community individuals on Tuesday 14/02/2012 to allow them practicing sport and gain further knowledge on sport culture.

Qatar ready for Inaugural Arab Women Sports Tournament

An official women sport delegation under the supervision of Qatar’s Women Sport committee (QWSC) will head to UAE on Tuesday to participate in the inaugural Arab Women Sports Tournament will take place from 2 – 12 February 2012 at the Sharjah Ladies Club in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The prestigious tournament is organized under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, the wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, the Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and the Chairperson of the Sharjah Ladies Club. According to organizers, the event will bring together women sport teams from 22 Arab nations to compete in several sports including basketball, volleyball, table tennis, shooting and several athletics disciplines. Around 27 Qatari women athletes beside 20 members from administrative, technical and medical teams of QWSC will represent the country in five sports, basketball, volleyball, athletics, shooting and table tennis. The tournament is part of many initiatives taken by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, the wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, the Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and the Chairperson of the Sharjah Ladies Club to help drive the role of women in sports, preparing them for bigger international championships including the Olympics.

Women and Sport Conference gets positive response

The sessions of the inaugural Women and Sport Conference jointly organized by the Qatar Museum of Olympic Sports and Qatar Women Sport Committee got positive response from participants and guests on Monday. A range of vital topics related to the development of women sport, their sport tournaments, achievements in sport and their physical education were exhaustively discussed on Monday. At a productive session on Monday , HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdurrahman Al Thani, Secretary-General of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) briefed the participants on QOC ‘s contribution in the sport movement in general, its strategy for development of sport among all age groups and the profound concern given to the women’s sport. His Excellency mainly focused on QOC’s strategy through Elite Sport and Sport for All. As per Tuesday ’s agenda “ women and sport in GCC” will be the main topic for discussion, the key speakers are Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah of Kuwait - Head of the organization committee of GCC women sport, Sana bint Hamad bin Saoud Al-Bosaieedi (Oman), Laila Suhail, Deputy Chairperson of UAE’s women sport Committee. The three –day conference which will be concluded on Tuesday mainly aims to discuss the historical development of women and sport in the past, present and future from the perspective of the GCC nations.

HH Sheikha Jawahir bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, the wife of HH the Heir Apparent opened on Sunday the first conference on the history of women and sports (from the past to the future ) at the Lectures Hall at the Museum of Islamic Art. The Conference is organized by the Qatar Museum of Olympic Sports in cooperation with the Qatar Women’s Sport Committee. The conference brings together a number of international experts to shed light on topics related to women’s sports activities. The Conference also features panel discussions between the speakers and the public on the evolution of women’s sports in addition to organizing workshops for representatives of the GCC women’s sports association and renowned female figures in the world of sports. The conference also aims to discuss the historical development of women and sport in the past, present and future from the perspective of the GCC countries. Around 40 trainees and 14 women coaches will take part in the three-month long training program. The Qatar Women Sport Committee (QWSC) held a cultural symposium entitled "the importance of nutrition in Sport Activity" for its football squad members at QWSC hall on Thursday. Mrs., Rita Mansour, the key lecturer gave a detailed presentation on some selected - food components including, Carbohydrates, fats and proteins as main sources of energy for each athlete. On video show, Mrs. Mansour shed light on type of meals allocated for footballers and the importance of nutrition for the player during sport activity. Mrs. Maha Abdulgabbar, the QWSC member, QWSC football team members alongside the administrative and technical staff officials attended the productive lecture. The symposium came in the light of QWSC effort to increase the literature of women athletes about nutrition during sport activities.

The Qatar women squad has sealed a comfortable 66-40 win over Bahraini counterpart Wednesday to clinch the title of the prestigious event. In all their respective matches during the championship, the national women basketball team had shown commendable performance without suffering any defeat. At medal distribution ceremony on Wednesday, HH Sheikha Jawaher handed over the medals to winners, Qatar, runners-up, United Arab Emirates and third place winners, Bahrain. The first edition of Qatar Women Football Championship concluded on Tuesday at the Al Yarmouk Independent School playground. Al Kharaitiyat claimed the title after beating Qatar Women’s Club (A) 2-1 in the final match. The training course for Women Football Referees came to an end at the Aspire Zone on Sunday. The prestigious course was jointly organized by the Qatar Women Sport Committee (QWSC), Qatar Football Association (QFA) and International Football Federation (FIFA) from 27 to 31 October 2010. Around 47 local football referees have participated in the 4-day program, which included theoretical lectures on the game alongside series of practical on-field sessions. The closing ceremony was held at Women’s Club in Aspire Zone with attendance by Nada Alamri, QWSC Board Member and Mohammad Mubarak, QFA Board Member. Mrs. Nada Alamri provided a member of the Board of Directors of Qatar Women Sports Committee (QWSC) thanked the Chairperson of the Committee and members of the Board of Directors to support the Federation International de Football Association FIFA studies organized by the Commission and by which we seek to develop Qatar women's football.

MANAMA 19 October 2010- Under Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King of Bahrain and President of the Supreme Council for Women, the Arab Women Football championship began on Monday in Manama, Bahrain. To conclude on 28 October, the event features the participation of 8 teams representing Bahrain, Qatar, Syria, Palestine, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Iraq, and Jordan. The opening ceremony was attended by HH Sheikha Hassa bint Khalifa Al khalifa, Member of Supreme Council of Women, HE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Thamer Al Thani, Ambassador of Qatar in Bahrain and Sheikh Suleiman Bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Secretary General of Youth and Sports Supreme Council. Mrs. Maha Yousef AL-Abduljabbar Assistant Secretary General of Qatar Women's Sport Committee (QWSC) Chairperson of Qatar’s delegation to the championship said that the Qatari players continued their training sessions in preparation for the match against Bahrain in the opening round.

Qatar women’s table tennis team delegation will be Leave to Lebanon today to participate in the Arab Women table tennis Championship that will be held from October 18-28 in Beirut, Lebanon. The team delegation is chaired by Mrs. Fatma Abdul Rahman Al Matawa, and Farida Ismail Administrator, and Sou Lee coach and 4 players. Mrs. Nada Ahmed Al-Amri director of the team said that the team was on standby to participate in this tournament after a good preparation of continuous training by the coaching staff, led by trained Sou Lee.

A technical course for Women’s Football Coaching organized by the Qatar Women Sport Committee (QWSC) concluded successfully at Retaj Al Rayyan hotel on Tuesday. Around 15 participants representing QSWC coaches, physical education teachers alongside with 12 trainees from Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, UAE, Bahrain and Lebanon took part in the course. Mrs. Maha Al-Abdugabbar, QWSC Secretary General honored the participants and handed over a memorial shield to Monica Stab, Mrs. Maha Al- Abdugabbar, said that the organization of this coaching course comes amid a strategy to QWSC to support the sports and national teams qualifying, She also expressed thanks to the Qatar football association the main supporter of women's football in Qatar, and thanked the lecture, Mrs. Monica to meet them and attend to Qatar, For its part, has made a coordinated coaching course Mrs. Al-Anoud Said Al-Mosnad predicate pleased by the active participation of female students in this coaching course.

End of Women Referees course

DOHA, 16 July 2010 – The training course for Women Referees in Futsal organized by Qatar Women Sport Committee and Qatar Football Association concluded successfully at the Aspire Zone on Thursday. Around 40 local referees took part in the 4-day program, where they received theoretical lectures on the game alongside series of practical on-field sessions. At the closing session on Thursday, the QWSC chief, Mrs. Ahlam Al Mana distributed appreciation certificates among the participants and hailed the productive outcome of the course. Al Mane said that the percentage of participation in the course had exceeded the expectations, a matter that proved the great role women are playing in the development of country’s sport career. Mrs. Al Mana also announced that the upcoming new sport season 2010 -2011 will feature inaugural Women Football League at the GCC level, Mrs. Al Mana added that QWSC is constantly evolving thanks to great support from the officials on the sport in the country, especially the Qatar Football Association continued to support all activities of the Committee relating to football.

QWSC gear up for new sport season

DOHA, 11 June 2010 – Mrs. Ahlam Al Mane, the president of Qatar Women Sport Committee announced that QWSC is due to take part in a number of regional and international sport events in summer next year.
Speaking to local reporters on Tuesday, Mrs. Al Mane confirmed that a senior QWSC delegate will head to IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland to attend the International Women and Sport Commission’s meetings on June 22.
The QWSC delegate to Switzerland will include Mrs. Al Mane and Mrs. Lolwa Al Mari the QWSC secretary general.
Moreover, Mrs. Al Mane stressed that the QWSC is planning to organize series of international training camps for women sport teams as a preparatory period for the upcoming new season.

Qatar to host first GCC women basketball championship
Kuwait, 05 June 2010- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) women sports committee has approved holding the Gulf women basketball and volleyball champion on annual basis in line with the men events.
The eighth meeting of the committee which gathered on Friday representatives of four out of the five members of the committee agreed that the State of Kuwait will host the first Gulf women volleyball champion league in October while the basketball event will be held in Qatar in 2011.
“The meeting also approved holding the table tennis championship in Al-Sharjah, United Arab Emirates in 2011” chairperson of the committee Sheikha Na'ima Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah reported.
"The conferees agreed to hold the second Gulf women games, originally slated to take place in the UAE earlier this year, in Abu-Dhabi next March while Kingdom of Bahrain will play host to third Gulf women games in 2013," Sheikha Na'ima revealed.

Kuala Lumpur, 05 June 2010- FIFA has accepted the entries of Qatar and Jordan into the qualifying rounds of the 2012 London Olympics football tournaments.
In letters to both Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Member Associations, FIFA said it had confirmed the entries of the Qatar and Jordan football associations into the men’s and women’s qualifiers.
Qatar had earlier entered in the men’s competition only while Jordan had missed the deadline of submission of entries.
Three spots in the men’s competition and two berths in the women’s competition will be up for grabs by Asian qualifiers in the Olympic tournaments. Detailed information including the competition format on the qualifiers will be provided to all participating Member Associations in due time.

Women's Commission concludes training program Canadian

The presence of Mrs. Maha Al-Abdul-Jabbar, director of marketing and communications concluded yesterday evening at the QWSC events second study for the training program of Canada (we are trained) which was organized in cooperation with the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Canadian Federation of trainers, which lasted from 8 until 14 December and with good participation from female students. Women sport delegation ends fruitful USA visit

DOHA, November 1, 2009 – A Qatari women delegation headed by Mr. Ahlam Al Mane, president of Qatar Women Sports Commission concluded a fruitful visit to USA recently, where they successfully participated in the international visitor programme took place from September 24 until October 18 there.
The progrmme was staged in cooperation with USA embassy all across the world in attempt to exchange visits and boost methods of cooperation.
QWSC delegation to USA was headed by Ahlam Al Mane, accompanied by Maha Al – Abdulgbar QWSC member and official in charge of women Taekwondo sport and Salha Al Nuaimi, director of women basketball team.
During the USA visit , QWSC delegation met with women officials at the White House council in Washington ,
where they were briefed about the federal initiatives related with development of women sport and health
.
QWSC delegate also recorded fruitful tours into a number of women’s sport facilities, social

Plans underway to develop women sports, says Al Nuaimi

QWSC president will be accompanied by Mrs. Salha Al Nuaimi, Manager of Qatar women basketball team and Mrs. Maha Abduljabar, officials of QWSC public relations.
The visit comes in light of cooperation between QWSC and US Embassy in Doha to exchange experiences.

Women’s basketball team to resume training after Ramadan

DOHA, September 14, 2009 – Qatar’s women basketball team will resume their training session after the holy month of Ramadan at the indoor hall of Qatar Women Sport Committee.
The training will be staged under the supervision of Qatar Coach Maysa Yousif, and with participation of 20 players.
Ms. Salha Al Abdullah, the team administrator, said the training will come in light of Qatar’s preparations for the GCC Women Basketball Championship in Abu Dhabi, UAE later in March 2010.

Al Enabi wins basketball event in QWSC festival

DOHA, July 21, 2009- The inaugural summer sports festival of Qatar Women Sport Committee (QWSC) continued at the QWSC indoor hall in Aspire, on Monday. The festival witnesses participation of 180 players representing the Qatari women national teams of handball, basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis and swimming. The participating players are being divided into teams to include players from all national teams. In Monday's competitions, El Enabi team won the basketball competition that featured 8 teams. To conclude on Wednesday, the festival comes in light of the new strategy of the QWSC under the leadership of Mrs. Ahlam Al Manea to strengthen the friendship between players of the national teams.

UN Secretary General Advisor meets QWSC chief

DOHA, June 3, 2009 – Mrs. Ahlam Al Mane, president of Qatar Women Sport Committee, on Tuesday met with Mr. Wilfred Lemke, the visiting Special Advisor of the UN Secretary General on Sport for Development and Peace.Talks during the meeting dealt with issues pertaining to Qatari women sport movement, beside the programmes and plans requested by UN for boosting women sport career in the country.Lemke stressed the importance of women participation in special Olympics, as he voiced support to integrate people with special need ( girls category) into the domestic sport community and assist them to compete at regional and international levels Mr. Al Mane briefed the visiting UN official on QWSC new strategy to improve the skills and performance of the country's women sport teams.The meeting was attended by Khawla Khalid, Head of Foreign Relations Section of QOC, Louis F. Al Manea: QWSC new logo reflects our vision and strategy

DOHA, June 02, 2009- Qatar Women Sports Committee, QWSC and Qatar Telecom Company, Qtet on Monday held a joint press conference to announce the sponsorship of Qtel to the launching ceremony of QWSC new logo.
Mrs. Ahlam Al Manea, QWSC President, Mr. Adel Al Mutawa, Executive Director, Group Communications, Qtel, Mrs. Lulwa Hussein Al Merri, QWSC Secretary General, and Maha Abduljabar, QWSC Assistant Secretary General, attended the event.
Al Manea welcomed the attendees and extended appreciation to HE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammad Bin Saoud Al Thani, Qtel's Chairman Board of Qtel.
She added that the QWSC new logo reflected the strategy of the committee that has the following goals:

QWSC unveils USA hoopsters training mission

DOHA, May 31, 2009 – Qatar Women Sport Committee held a press conference with the visiting USA basketball players and gold medalists at the Beijing Olympics, Sam Berkner and Carla Maggy on Saturday.
QWSC chief, Ahlam Al Manae welcomed the visitors and praised the initiative of the USA Embassy in Doha, for selecting the two best USA basketball players to visit the country to train the Qatar national teams (men and women).
Mrs. Al Manae said the step comes in the light of QWSC strategy to boost women sport, through exchange of sport visits and experiences with different countries of the world.
Al Manae also confirmed that the two Americans visit to Doha embodies the fruitful cooperation between the Qatar Olympic Committee and the American Embassy in Qatar.
On their side, the two hoopsters, Sam Berkner and Carla Maggy reaffirmed their readiness to contribute positively in training the young generation and improving their skills in the sport.

QWSC training course concludes

DOHA, May 07, 2009 – The sport training course titled "We are coaches" for Qatari women organized by the Qatar Women Sport Committee in cooperation with Coaching Association of Canada came to an end on Wednesday .
Canada's Jillian Dimirs and the BHD student Mary Beer Chary delivered the lectures and conducted the workshop for trainees.
The ten–day course which took at the Aspire Zone featured 47 women, including sport education teachers, coaches of women national teams.
Mrs. Maha Al Abdul-Jabbar, QWSC Assistant Secretary General distributed certificates to participating teachers and coaches and handed over QWSC Shields to the two Canadian lecturers.
